The product begins with a simple belief: vocabulary becomes more motivating when it belongs to a real goal. Everything that follows is organized around helping those chosen words become familiar, usable, and easier to remember.
Why we are building it
Most courses decide what you should learn and when. That can work for a general syllabus, but it can also leave the words you actually need—your work vocabulary, family phrases, travel plans, or favorite topics—waiting at the edge of the lesson.
Wordy Birdy begins with a learner-owned word list. That list becomes the goal, and each new card, story, and practice prompt is selected against it.
What the prototype does today
Learners choose from the languages whose content is ready, then begin with essentials, paste a custom list, or collect vocabulary from a captioned YouTube video. New words appear in an image-backed feed, return inside short stories, and come back for scheduled practice.
Progress belongs to the word—not to one lesson. If the same word appears in another list or story, the learner keeps the knowledge already earned.
What we believe
A useful learning product should make the next action obvious, preserve the learner’s agency, and be honest about what the evidence can and cannot establish.
Wordy Birdy is designed around researched techniques including retrieval practice, distributed practice, and repeated encounters in context. Those findings support the learning principles; they are not a claim that this prototype itself has completed an independent efficacy trial.
